I love HK – it’s a fantastic city where you can find interesting boutiques, restaurants, bars and cafes literally at every corner. During my short trip there last week (now I’m back in the cold n’ snowy Beijing!) I wondered around the small alleys close to Hollywood Rd., and discovered Edit, definitely one of those hidden gems. I decided to give them the ‘Chiara’s pick’ #1!
A ‘Chiara’s Pick’ is like an award that from now on I will start giving to my favourite restaurants, shops, designers upon careful and 100% subjective (!) evaluation. The winner is awarded with a framed picture with my silhouette and my signature and they are encouraged to display it. The reason why I’m doing this is because it’s just a nice and funny way to show my gratitude for their food, creations, ideas and stuff and somehow create a bond. At the end of the day, they make my life amazing! For them, it’s a way to show other customers the positive feedback of at least one among others, me. So…I guess a win-win!? Moreover, if interested, my readers can make use of this network of trusted and lovely references around the world.
Edit is a tiny little accessories & clothes boutique in the hip neighbourhood of Sheung Wan – when you enter through the small door on 67, Hollywood Rd., you feel like you are entering a dream. Jewels and bijoux from local and international designers are displayed on a big wooden table in the main space, and funky clothes hang down from racks alongside the white walls.
But this description doesn’t do justice to this shop: what I like the most is the choice by people behind Edit of exhibiting only young and avant-garde designers from all over the word. For examples, there are English Emma Cook‘s romantic sweaters, French Lohto‘s stylish eye & sunglasses and Lebanese Sarah’s bags‘ edgy clutches. It’s incredible that such a small boutique offers such a wide choice!
Personally, I fell in love with this amazing vintage ring: the way the three precious multifaceted stones are linked together through the glazed gold frame is very interesting – modern yet classy at the same time.
But honestly, I loved almost every single piece! Also the way they were displayed, on fashion books & magazines and easily accessible to try on – I hate when jewels are in a case and you need to ask for permission to have a closer look at them in your hands. A big part of the fun is to try things freely (and to take selfies when doing so!).
While chatting with the girl at the counter and complimenting her for the shop, I noticed a cute little gold ring. It was like someone wrote ‘feel love’ with a gold pen and then bended the writing to create a ring. It was so sweet! I put it on my finger and… it was love at first-try-on. I bought it right away – it was perfect for me! Later I found out it is part of the Messenger Collection by HK designer Carmen Chan. “This collection is a messenger, aspiration and showcase of finding what you love, loving what you live at and living what you dream” Carmen writes on her webiste. Isn’t it what we are all looking for?
But I was not done yet. I saw something else that caught my attention. A cute little pinky rose ring. I simply couldn’t resist – it was so gracious and feminine. The moment I wore it I felt like I was in a lawn full of beautiful roses. The girls @ Edit told me that it was part of a collection by Leila Kashanipour, American-born-Persian designer behind the jewellery label LeiVanKash. Leila, trained at London’s Central St Martins, designs and produces every single piece of her collections, finishing them with a certain old-style workmanship, closer to the artisans’ manual skills than to the mass-production finish.
I bought it and I couldn’t wait, and wore her ring right away, showing it off around HK!
I guess you understand why I decided to give the first ‘Chiara’s pick’ to Edit – it “is a space where our dreams are fulfilled and where our individual passions are realised. Like editors of our own lives, we write our own stories and adventures in hopes of making our dreams come true” they say on their website. And I totally agree.
